Statement Regarding VEC Investigation into Baird Ward Election Integrity
MEDIA RELEASE
For Immediate Release
November 13, 2024
I acknowledge the Victorian Electoral Commission's (VEC) identification of electoral integrity concerns in the 2024 Baird Ward election. While this matter is under investigation by the relevant authorities, I respect and stand by the VEC's declaration of Cr Peter Lockwood as the elected community representative.
The potential subversion of our democratic process is deeply disappointing. However, I commend the VEC for their diligence in detecting these irregularities and their swift action in referring the matter to the appropriate authorities for investigation.
The integrity of our electoral system is paramount to maintaining public trust in local government. I support all efforts to ensure the validity and transparency of our democratic processes.
I support the speedy investigation of this matter and maintain my commitment to serving our community's best interests, and I ask the Knox community to get behind and support the VEC declared Councillors as they seek to represent our community.
